Wonder how the conclusion to that argument went - he may be still passed out from his winnings!
 
There is no restriction on the number of sockets that can be supplied from a fused spur as the cable cannot be overloaded, however on a practical basis the use of the sockets would need to be limited to a total of 13A total to avoid the fuse blowing all the time so consideration of expected load would be useful.
Agree with what Richard says, check out Appendix 15 of BS 7671, for a pictorial description.
