Hi there,

Long time forum browser here and I've now been stumped and need some expert info that I haven't been able to find so far

i am wondering if it is possible to add a time lag type switch (like the ones uses for lights) for the boiler circuit so that whenever it's pushed the boiler, be it heat or water, is active for X number of minutes or hours, and then turns off. The button would have to be pushed again to turn it on.

The reason for this is I have a rental property and the tenants are constantly leaving the boiler heating on high when they are out (I pay the bills). Additionally the boiler (ideal Isar he24) turns on for about 5 minutes every half hour to keep the water up to temperature thus using lots of gas.

I really want to reduce/stop the boiler heating up for the water every 30 mins as it's really not needed and just wasting gas, and have the boiler turn off after X minutes or hours so that of the tenants go out it's not wasting fuel!

any ideas?

Thanks, Jay

The way you describe using a time lag switch, the boiler / heater would hardly get up to any decent temp before you needed to push the button again, probably do a lot of damage being constantly switched on and off, maybe a time clock would be better, a qualified Electrician could assess the problem for you I would think

What controls does the system have at the moment? Is it a combi boiler, or does it use a hot water cylinder (if the latter then a cylinder stat should stop or much reduce idle firing for water).
