Low IR between line and CPC could be generating some heat at the fault causing the intermittent RCD tripping?
I'd be finding that fault first and then work from there.

I was only being sarcastic anyway, I think we have all come across problems that the more we look at it the more we become blind to the solution...been there and done that!!

I went to a house with this type of problem and it was a socket inside a cupboard with a deodoriser heater that wouldn't trip straight away could be something along those lines.
