Good afternoon,

I've currently got a metal and plastic recycling facility, we normally just take in plastics but are licensed for metals. We've recently recieved some transformers to be recycled, from what I know, 500KVA Dry transformers, they weigh about 1500kg each and I've got 3 with all switch gear. I'm wondering what the best option is on recovery, should I find a buyer to take them whole, or is it worth stripping them down for the copper? The oldest one I have is from 1996 so should not contain any PCB.

Any advice or information on this would be greatly appriciated.

Will they power my Scalextric?
Wow. 1500kg. What's the going rate for scrap copper at the moment? I'm afraid I can't answer the question though.

Haha, no mate have you seen how fast them scaletrix go? ;)

Think it's about £360 a tonne, goes up and down. No probs. Been told at least 1/3 of the internal is copper, would just like a second opinion.

What proportion of the 1500kg is copper and how much work is involved and separating it? I know it doesn't answer you question but just being nosey .. loike!
