IR Testing

Hi All,
Firstly I'll apologise for not trying to collate this with another thread, But thanks to my organisation skills I find myself short on time.
I'm currently at College and coming up to a assignment to do with testing etc. I understand pretty much all area's of testing, However theres a few things that keep popping up and there simple things that could make me fail my test. So could you clear the following up for me.

1) When Doing an individual (i.e. not global) IR test do the MCB's need to be on or off?
2) We have it drilled into us to disconnect RCBO's and every time i do testing I'm now worried that i arent disconnecting them properly, At the moment I just disconnect the L,N and cpc's from the rcbo's, Is that enough or do I need to do anything else?

Any other helpful advice always well appreciated

you are correct. fo IR testing, you are testing the circuit under test L-N, L-E,N-E. the MCB/RCBO should not be connected to the circuit under test.

Hi mate,

You are IR testing the cables only.

I am assuming single phase here.

Isolate, lock off, post notice, prove dead then,

Disconnect the circuit completely from the dist board, then IR on the cable ends, L-E, L-N, N-E. Job done.
I see no reason to leave it connected to the MCB, and i wouldn't teach anyone to do it like that either. There is no need or purpose in IR testing the breaker.

Three phase do the same with all three phases.

Thanks for the help guys, It does seem alot easier to disconnect the cables completely, I have always been tought both at work and college to test to the MCB, Hence my question. But I guess removing the cables removes any doubt.
