ir testing today on 6 circuits all >999 apart from sockets which was around >500 odd,

every socket unscrewed and walls being plastered no bags over sockets , im thinking this may be effecting the results , loose connection/condinsation etc

lol

i know its a pass, 0.5M is the minimum

i wasnt saying it is a fail was wondering why the meter would >999 the rest and not the ring so obv something causing it .

Hard to please some folk

breathe on the crocs will lower the reading at that level.

Put it into perspective,
@ 500Meg, you're leaking <1 µA, through resistance.
The circuit will be leaking considerably more than that through the capacitance of the cables when energised.

At those levels it could be anything but again nothing to worry about. Other option is to use a megger that only reads up to 299 Meg then you wouldn't even be asking this question.
