Discuss Is this within regs? in the UK Electrical Forum area at ElectriciansForums.net

I am trying to fathom out why it should be any sort of a problem whatsoever

The question I ask is "what has actually been attempted to get to that horror show in the picture in the first place"
Then, why even dream of considering it acceptable

Sorry to say,but it seems as though a solution is being sought to a problem that was created in the first place by poor installation practice and experience

im confused?

the 20mm thread is for stuffing glands.

get a cone cutter to widen it slightly then connect it.

if the thread goes inside cut it with a knife.

or do what should have been done jn the first place and chosen decent gear

Or just get the brass earthing plate designed to go in those boxes which the gland threads into and has an earth terminal to connect your cable to.

I hope that the swa is not being used as the earthing. There is no way that you have a secure connection as it is. Sorry to sound harsh, but if one of my 1st year apprentices showed me that, I would tell them to do it again.

I'm at a bit of a loss as to why you couldn't do this in the first place, ...still you're there now!! Bend the tag of the Banjo up and you'll get a better flat connection with the locknut!! Still say you'd be better off with a Piranha earth nut mind... lol!!

looking at that pic., i would say a locknut under the banjo would make for a decent connection.

Yes, what is under the banjo? Not good if it's plastic! I'm not very convinced by the crimp terminal either, nuts in the wrong places, easy for the screw to loosen.

2011-11-15135120.jpgBut this is how I do it , it's cheaper in today's climate and hardly anyone notices the difference.

this one lol , don't know how that happened.
