Thanks for the reply, just to be clear, I have only changed switch and socket fronts to a more modern look, by duplicating the wiring, not had any problems with any of the others, just this one on the stairs, is it possible that the old switch thats still in place as a fault on one side the switch, can that happen, I always isolate the mains switch at the board to be on the safe side,

Welcome to the forums.

I think @Spoon is just ensuring you're aware of this particular rule as of late we seem to have had quite a few people join and then get all salty when ultimately their question ends in the suggestion they hire a local electrician. Don't take it personally :)

Dont worry Carl. You are perfectly entitled to replace a light switch or socket lol. Do you have a photo of the light switch you are having a problem with?
