Kitchen Light will not switch off only started happening recently

sorry if this has been posted in the incorrect place.

was at a friends house and since wedensday he has been unable to turn off the kitchen light.
i checked the light and all the connections are fine.
at the switch I'm getting 230v between live and cpc and 230v between neutral and cpc

both light and switch only have 1 cable at it which suggests its a joint box between the ceiling and the floor of upstairs.

i have yet to look in the board but i genuinely do not know hat could be wrong.

Busted switch I reckon, at the switch with only one cable, you will have a live and a switched live not a neutral, if you are getting 230v to earth at the live and switch live, operate the switch and see if the voltage disappears from the switched live, then as I said more than likely a busted switch.

Isolate the circuit using the MCB or CU main isolator, disconnect one wire from the switch and make it safe by putting it into a wago or choc block. Re-energise the circuit, if the light is off then replace the switch, if it's still on then start by running a full circuit test and interrogate your friend after slipping him some sodium pentothal because my money would then be on him having done some DIY replacing of the fitting .

230v between neutral and cpc is showing signs of a lost neutral. Probably in the joint box you suspect is there.

The switch contacts are probably welded closed from the spark on operation, for the cost of a new switch just swap the switch over and see if it now works.

Just Re read and saw he tested at the switch!...

I wondered what every one was missing, turns out it was just me who was missing haha!!
