Discuss LARGE down light adaptor plates in the Electrical Tools and Products area at ElectriciansForums.net

O

Octopus

OK.... I have a customer with 2 x very old Phillips "downlights" - the holes in the ceiling are about 140mm in diameter and I need to locate a "cost effective" solution so that GU10 LED's can be fitted.

Suggestions please

Thanks

Nice ideas chaps - so my thoughts:

The room is quite small so 2 x 12W LED's may be too powerful

The Eterna lights are 150 mm diameter

The ones I tried are the ML Accessories which is only 135 mm diameter

Repairing the ceiling isn't really a practical option

So I'll try the Eterna unit

More suggestions anyone?

Search for a large converter plate, which I think look terrible, or go for something like this....
Flicker-free 12W LED Slimline Downlight - LED Hut - https://www.ledhut.co.uk/spot-lights/ceiling-lights/12-watt-led-downlight.html

I have not used that particular product but this type of round panel light are getting more widespread and cheaper, and fill a big hole.

Looks like a cheaper alternative to Ansell's Freskas. Would be keen to know if anyone has tried them.

2nd these.. if youre worried about them being to bright fit a dimmable driver & dimmer to them.. one thing with these fittings is that they are NOT fire rated so may require a large hood also

the ones in my link will just go up to a 140mm hole.

Or how about a couple of surface mounted circular enclosed led fittings ? Electricfix do a nice fitting - Sylvania 'Sylcircle' in various wattages, I've recently fitted a few 12w variants and they give a very good light and look good.

EDIT - Cat No. 2359H

I have used these (see link below) on occasion Murdoch. They can make them pretty much any size you want. Simple but effective.

Funnily enough, I had to replace two down lights in a small ensuite on Monday. I was fitting 2 x JCC FGLED3 and the existing holes were too large, so I thought I would use their FGLED Converter Plate | JCC Lighting - http://www.jcc.co.uk/lighting/fgled-converter-plate/

Have to say they were carp. After about an hour of trying I gave up. The instructions said to replace the FG3 fixing springs with the one provided in the converter pack, which didn't hold up the DL correctly. Wasn't helped by a sloping ceiling near the existing hole. Even on 'the bench', the FG3 didn't seem to fit properly in the converter plate.

After I gave up on that idea, and took to re-boarded the existing hole (& made good), and cut a new hole for the new DL, I had the job done in less time than I was messing around with the converter plate. Never again.

A member (can't remember who ) recommended these, which use a larger cut-out hole (95mm?); 12W Centurion CCT Changing Dimmable Downlighter AX499/AX500 | Amitex LED - http://www.amitexled.com/products/led-downlighters/12w-centurion-cct

Yep, that's me too :)
