bit of food for thought really
I have heard that if you change the wiring in a fluorescent fitting to take an LED lamp, you effectively become the manufactuer of the fitting and as such should sticker the fitting up so if the local choppy comes to replace a lamp he doesn't stick a normal lamp straight back in it

Agreed, if you alter the design of any machine, appliance or light fitting then you would be responsible for the functionality and safety of the design from that point on and you should install warning labels notifying any future people of the design changes you've made.

Surely you label the fitting to say what sort of lamp should be fitted and remove the old labels anyway don't you? or is common sense completely dead now?

This is a goody.....technically you can not just change the tube....you need to change the whole fitting to a CE approved fitting, displaying technically details such as working voltage, wattage and types of tubes compatible with this unit. I can see this becoming a serious issue, as some guidance needs to be introduce, to display what an electrician needs to know when replacing tubes.....If some one has converted a fitting, to except led tubes, then this needs to be obvious to the poor spark replacing a tube.
