Went to a little job before to replace 2 light fittings - both were metal, and on further inspection i saw the lighting circuit had no cpc.

I told the customer it wouldn't be right to fit them - he didn't like that... a selection of things he said:

" These regulations you speak about aren't there to make people like me safe, but to make you boys rich..."

" I'll get someone who knows what they're doing to do it..."

"Its all a load of bullshht..."

Just can't help some people can you! :90:

Some won't be helped mate, unfortunately this guy knows more about your job than you do (in his own mind of course) he'll get some bloody cowboy to install them. If he's lucky he'll never get a belt, we can live in hope though.

I would have recommended he took the lights back for a refund and then to google class 2 light fittings!

I don't know how I would have held my tongue listening to that. Nobody needs customers like that, and customers like that deserve the sort of tradesmen that would happily fit his metal fittings with no earth.

Blacklist his number on your phone and carry on with the proper jobs.

as above. your own integrity as a competent spark is more important than arse wipes like that.

Do the job, fill the cert, then please Sir, can you print and sign in the appropriate places.
Take cash and run! :)

he's had your advice and chosen not to heed it. maybe darwin will intervene.

It's a sad fact that, unfortunately, at least 50% of the great British public out there are imbeciles. You just have to grit your teeth and get on with it. It's not just in the world of electric's, it's just generally.

Blimey that high. Well, your probably right. Case in point, just did a favour for someone in "desperate trouble", went to a so called emergency job, and gave them a bill for a very reasonable £50. They told me they had "left an envelope" with next door. When I went to pick it up, it had, wait for it, £49 quid in it. What do you do???? unbelievable.

There are plenty of metal light fittings out there on the market that have been manufactured to Class 2 standards. Don't assume that all metal lighting fittings are Class 1 and require a CPC connection.... I'm not saying in this instance that these fitting weren't Class 1, they probably were.

I know of at least two manufactures that specialise in the production of Class 2 metal fittings...
