If a 6a domestic lighting circuit had say at least 30 lights on it , including lots of 50w gu10 bulbs what code if any would you put on a eicr?

Depends
What regulation would you be citing on your observation ?
What exactly is the issue that requires a coded observation ?

Lets have a bit more, what job? what exactly is the total load? how big is the existing cable? is all lights likely to be on at the same time at all?

Your max load if you have 30*50W GU10 is 6.25A so it will never trip on overload, it might trip on start up but as it is an EICR then it doesn't because it is in use, not a good design but never going to be a problem.

So if a circuit is really overloaded but has the correct mcb then you don't mention it on EICR ?

No you don't because it's not overloaded. The cable is adequate for the circuit and the OCPD is adequate for protection of the cable.

You should only be issuing a code to an observation on an EICR if it breaches a reg and you can reference that reg.

Yet again, I'm caused to call the competence of someone into question, when in fact by very requirement of quals such as 2391, anyone engaging in Inspection and Testing would be expected to have above average experience and knowledge.

Please, someone tell me that it's not just me thinking this, surely??!
