I had a job to replace downlights with fluorescent battens, however when I came to the job they wanted the downlights to stay as well, this meant a large increase in the job requirement supplying new wiring for the fluorescents.

I wired this is such a way that the switched line for the downlights is now junctioned in the fluorescent enclosure (using the space as a junction box). I therefore have another live supply (joined with a wago and labelled up and positioned well away from the Fluorescent terminal block) inside the fluorescent enclosure.
Is this acceptable practice and does it break any regulations? If you could supply guidance I would be grateful.

The other ways to supply power would be running another cable 10m back to the CU through a very full loft or having a separate junction box in the loft.

Just to clarify how I wired it (or perhaps just to confuse!)
I replaced the local (two way) switch with a new two gang switch, linked the permanent line to the fluorescent switch and took the new switched line up to the fluorescent.
I then removed the SL N and E cable from the first downlight and brought it to the flourescent enclosure to supply N and E into the fluorescent and then used a new T&E to take SL(downlight),N and E back to the downlight. There being no space at the downlight to have three cables.

Thank you

Hi Richard, What you have done is fine and don't appear to have infringed any wiring regulations. This effectively a loop-in at the fluorescent fitting, using the enclosure to house your wago(s)/terminal block(s).
