firstly, amazed by this site - already saved 6 grand by reading through here for three hours, plus got a better idea of what qualifications i need to become an electrician.
now i just need to know how to get those qualifications - obviously I'm not gonna shed £6000 to OLCI or TradeQualified to then buy my own damn course materials off of amazon, can buy them anyway
does anyone know if it is possible to just apply privately to do theory or practical exams? college courses are out of question for me cos I can't afford to give up my current job
however, currently I work in a school, and for starters over summer holidays I've got 6 weeks of mooching about whilst being paid, so I could even volunteer simply for the experience.
I'm a 27 year old career changer, was gonna be a teacher, but didn't get on a course because they were full and felt a profound sense of relief, so realising what that meant - i started thinking about alternatives, always liked working with my hands, always enjoyed technical and delicate operations - whether making models or circuit boards (for DT at school many years back) because it focuses the mind and it feels like real work. I am based in south east london - eltham/lewisham/bromley/sidcup/bexleyheath/greenwich area
any thoughts, suggestions or job offers for millions of pounds most welcome (if you don't ask you don't get. free money is even better if anyone wants to offer)
