Just sitting down for tea and door bell goes neighbour tells me his main fuse is hot to touch and a smell of burning is present goes across and he's right burning smell and very warm main fuse so isolates consumer looking for any burning or loose cables in consumer all ok fuse is sealed but seems a bit loose he doesn't want me to cut seal to check as he's waiting for dno to come out anyone had similar please tell me ha ha don't want him knocking back when the footy starts

Id avoid wiggling the tails if the service fuse is hot its highly likely the housing holding the terminal clamps have lost their structural integrity and will just fall apart this could in a worse case scenario be extremely dangerous.
As you have already done -switch off all power and contact the supplier. I have seen these guys open up such a cutout with extreme caution and PPE to suit with tales of it may collapse and explode in your face.

If you think about the heat thats generated will travel through the fuse and overheat the insulation on the incoming cable to a point it may fail and short out at the slightest movement.:shocked3:

As darkwood says, they can become very brittle and likely to break so leave to the DNO and leave everything in the house switched off via the main switch!

had it on a job before , 3 phase supply , fuses where to hot to touch checked everything out , clamp metered tails was not overloaded pulled the fuses and installed new fuse carriers , few days later happened again , DNO came out and changed the head no explanation worked fine after that . ( quite enjoyed watching the guys change the cable head live )

Scottish power arrived fuse carrier and holder corroded and damaged need to wait for a second man as they need to be in twos to work live neighbour now in house drinking my beer for tonight's match ha ha thanks for replays chaps

Is your neighbour a nice young attractive blonde with a thirst for cold can ... if so you have just put a nice tick in her box (Not a euphemism)!

Checking for the wiring being loose gave me the heebiejeebies but I'm impressed the DNO were there in an hour and are going to fix it straight away.

No he's a bald feller with glasses dark wood lol yes pretty good show for Scottish power he did wait an hour an half and another half hour for second man but he drinks like a fish no ale for second half at this rate
