Hi,

I have recently moved over to the marine side of the industry which has some very noticable differences. The main one is that we have 2 phases each at 110v and together giving 230v ie no neutral involved. The other is that an earth fault does not trip an MCB only a short circuit ie phase to phase will trip the protective device. (seperate system for earth faults)

So I'm working on a panel and see single pole circuit breakers, if one MCB trips we still have a live feed on the circuit. The simply answer of fitting a 2 pole MCB (which is standard on the vesell) solves the issue.

Then I see double fuse carriers. If one fuse trips the other will still be feeding the circuit with 110v.
Now I would think (but not 100% sure) that one of the fuses would blow, ie the feed and the other may not, ie the return.

So before I go and open a can of worms here, does anyone have any experience/comments on this type of system?

Thanks,
Stuart

Lol, I'm up to my neck in the moderation queue so I took the semi-lazy way out. It's not just a 52 page document it's a damn good 52 page document though, I have the Dutch version on my PC but I hunted down a translation instead.... hence I was only semi-lazy.

....53 inc cover page.

Did you read it yet, are you up to speed with the effects of phase-earth (hull) capacitance on fault currents in a floating neutral marine network?
