Discuss megger 1700 series in the Industrial Electricians' Talk area at ElectriciansForums.net

I have three for use with training. They are much better to pick up and learn from. Unfortunately I only have 1 working unit as two have gone back. 1 just stopped applying current under test, the other kept tripping RCD's on the loop test 'no trip' setting.

In comparison, the tests take the same duration and the beeps and blips it makes are the same.

Bought a 1730, faults discovered on first day, Low current loop readings very inaccurate, and why oh why do we have to wait so long for a test to 'compute' about 20 seconds a reading and then the manual has the nerve to tell you to take multiple readings and take the average! I have stuck with this sort of time wasting for too many years. Don't know what yet, but the replacment will NOT be a Megger.

We had the same issues when they brought out the 1500 series,
mine was like testing with a lottery machine.... Think of a number.. any number
That went back took years for me to rebuild trust again.

When you say rebuild trust, did you use their products again, if so which?
I already have a 1553 and that works ok most of the time, I hate the slow low currant loop test time and the inevitable variation in the readings, it is not exactly constant, near enough seems to be Megger's loop test results!

Eventually started using the MFT 1552 but only after attending a couple of trade events and talking to the Megger guy and to be honest building a trust relationship with him. He said he'd personally take care of me with another one went wrong

mmmmmm it looks like a case of tried n tested could be best option till things settle down a bit ill stick with my 1552+3 although my 1552s going to hospital due to the selector switch not selecting at pointer but of its own accord :(
