Megger CM500 Multifunction Installation Tester

The Megger CM500 Multifunction Installation Tester is a compact product tester that combines all the functions required to fully test domestic, commercial and industrial fixed wiring. The Megger CM500 Multifunction Tester is the first Installation Tester with a non tripping loop test guaranteed not to trip any RCD rated 30 mA or above. Tests on the Megger CM500 are carried out in accordance with International Standards, 17th Edition National Wiring Regulations BS7671:2008 and Euro Standard EN61557. With a large memory and storage capability, the Megger CM500 Multifunction Tester offers the ability to display, download and print data on site.

Test lead resistances can be nulled and a continuity buzzer is incorporated for rapid identification of open and short circuits. The Megger CM500 Multifunction Installation Tester has settable automatic polarity reversal and result averaging. Auto-ranging earth resistance function enables measurement of earth electrode resistance on TT systems.

Loop tests on the Megger CM500 Installation Tester are performed to a resolution of 0,01 ohms with direct display of PEFC and PSCC. This Multifunction Tester has a unique low current loop test with 0,1 ohms resolution for testing circuits protected by an RCD rated at 30mA or above, without tripping the RCD, including the newer electronic ones.

The Megger CM500 Multifunction Tester offers verification of the correct operation of RCDs rated between 10mA and 1000mA with trip timing up to 2000ms. A ramp test indicates actual trip current to aid in fault diagnosis and variable test current function enabling the testing of programmable and specialist devices.

Upon connecting the Megger CM500 Multifunction Installation Tester to the mains supply the polarity and voltage are displayed to show correct wiring of the socket under test and warn of live voltages. Supply frequency is indicated at the touch of a button.

Megger CM500 Multifunction Installation Tester features:
• Storage of approximately 750 test results on the Megger Installation Tester internal memory
• Recall of test results to Megger Multifunction Tester display
• Connect to IBM compatible PC for storage of results
• Ramp Test for measuring RCD actual trip currents
• Variable RCD test current for programmable devices
• Insulation tests at 250v, 500v & 1000v with 1mA output
• Continuity tests with 200mA short circuit capability
• Phase-Phase, Phase-Neutral, Phase-Earth Loop Tests
• High current Loop Testing with 0,01 ohms resolution
• Prospective Earth Fault and Short Circuit Current
• Low current Loop Test for non-tripping of RCDs
• Earth Electrode Resistance Test for simple systems
• No-trip, Trip and Fast Trip RCD testing
• Tests D.C. Sensitive, Selective and General Type RCDs
• Supply voltage, polarity and frequency indication
• Direct serial printer output via the Megger CM500 Multifunction Tester RS232 port
• Meets or exceeds the requirements of EN61010-1 Category III 480 V (max) phase-phase

I have one in my lock up, haven’t used it in about 2 years, I never liked it and found the Zs are really inaccurate on the non RCD trip scale, which caused my loads of problems. I called mega and they told me the reading were within the testers design specifications. Personally I would not recommend it to anyone, but then what do I know.

I used one for a few years before the 1553 and actually really liked it.

Mmmmm it's pretty.

Golf just had a look at the 400 spec it seems to have it all for 17th, not that I'm an expert or anything....

I have a cm500 since 1998,always gives a higher result on the 15mA loop test, rang megger in Southampton and was told also the results were fine, as long as your reading is below the regs, take it as ok, note, I brought mine for calibration last year, it failed! Who is right? Megger or the test company?
