Hi, newbie to EF. Very little knowledge in this area.
I've decided to look into doing couple of tasks at home , restoring a couple of things that need checking & wiring.
I've noticed a couple of topics of relevance so far , so I think I'm hanging in the right place.
:)
Will be under supervision from other half so remaining safe !

Hi,what is it you are looking to fix? It may give us a clue on what tools to go splurging on.

Also, spending money on tools....even if superfluous,is never wrong.

Out of all the things i have spent money on,women, children, properties, holidays hats and haircuts....tools,have never been an item i regretted...:)

Yes, you're right tools are good .
I don't really need much, to get going , just new snips I think so far.
I'm hoping to re wire a 2 core lamp and pos a clock.
Also 2 core but tbh, I'm not even sure that runs.
These are my 2 projects to have a look at.
I love reading up on stuff. But I've always been petrified of electricity if I'm honest. Maybe just through lack of understanding.
I shall browse the forum see what I can find about old items.

Yep !
Been browsing cable for days now .
I assume I gotta check the diameter to make sure it'll feed through.
I've located 2 core cable...
What do I need to know about non earthed items ?
I've not yet found my way round the site.
I note some threads get closed & some items are old.
If you know of any info please send me the right way.
The lamp currently is 2 core.
Glass but with metal insert holding the bulb holder.

Welcome to the forum said the spider to the fly!
Sounds like you, too are a tinkerer! Plenty of those on here, a few tinkers as well!
(No offence to anyone, other tinkers are available!) there that’ll keep the snowflakes at bay!

I seem to have plenty of good ideas !
Not great on forums, I get muddled tbh.
I have time on my hands & there's some great old stuff out there. I'm not one for modern design particularly .
If I get either of these projects done ( art deco ) pieces I'll have something to shout about :)

Are these items for personal use or are you selling any?

If your having a midlife crisis forget tools go get yourself a motorbike a nice GSX- R great fun in the summer and for winter get a defender and go and do some Green Laneing
Ps to the spelling police sorry for the spelling

Personal belongings/ projects , why'd you ask ?

If you were selling the items then the projects you sell would have to be CE certified, depending on what country you sell to.

True,to a degree, but the emphasis is on purpose, and fit for said purpose...a good example of that would be antique firearms :)

If you are into repairing lamps etc there is a company called lamps and lighting which has a good online catalogue with how to pages. Might be worth a look. I have no connection with the company.
