Ohm From Ohm

Hello,

Can anyone please assist me in the following:

My client wants to feed a Mono water pump from a distance of approx. 360 metres.

I have a choice of using PVC/PVC cable taped to a catenary wire. I am not happy with this method and would prefer to run PVC/PVC/SWA cable underground. The pump is rated at 186 watts S/P.

Can anyone advise the voltage drop if the following cable is used.

2.5mm PVC/PVC 6242Y
1.5mm PVC/SWA 2 core 6942X
1.5mm PVC/SWA 3 core 6943X
or 2.5mm PVC/SWA 3 core 6943X

I recently retired and gave my regulation books to an apprentice, and I obviously don't remember the M/V amp figures etc. This is a private matter for a relative.

Much appreciated.

1.5mm is 29mV/A/m
2.5mm is 18mV/A/m

so @ 186watts = 0.8A

vd for 1.5mm = (29 x 360 x 0.8)/1000 = 8.3V.

with all due respect, how old are you, as you say you're retired? i'm thinking about it, but i'm only 70. how soon do you think it's time to give it up?

Not sure a catenary wire is a good idea! How many support poles are you planning on?

The volt drop during start up is going to be the problem with a single phase pump, depending especially on the cycle times of the pump. I don't have the info to hand to do the calcs but gut feel says I'd probably be looking at a 4mm supply on a 360m run.
