hello guys

Looked at a huge 6 bed house yesterday, they all have band new posh mr16 halogens and mr11 light fittings that they want converting to GU10 LED (don't want transformers).

I initially meanaured up all the holes and thought ok let's get you some new GU10 equivalents however I had a brainwave.

The existing fittings are metal fire rated units, I want to just run a cpc fly lead to the previously mr16 unit and simply remove the transformer and wire in a Gu10 socket, I can't see anything wrong with that what you think?

A GU10 socket tends to be class II construction, but do check on the ones you have, so unless you know of a reason to install a cpc this may increase the risk rather than reduce. You would have to make an assessment of the risk.
In general though what you propose is a good solution, still takes ages to change lots of them though!

I'd be looking to see if the lamp and lampholder will fit in the existing unit. Chances are it won't due to the extra depth of a GU10 lampholder.

You've not given any manufacturer or part number of the existing fitting a existing GU10 fitting may be produced to compare against eg earthing , lamp holder etc. to give an idea of conversion .
