What is the stray peice of bare fusewire (?) doing at the bottom?


I hope you made it perfectly clear that you need to change the entire board. Full EICR beforehand to check any other DIY that has been done.
 
Tsk, I would have at least used a connector block large enough to fit the tab on the rail, some of use bodger's still have a little class and style.
 
The stray piece of fuse wire is wrapped round the bus bar and into a connector and then out to the lights. A friend sent me this whilst he was on a job. They didn't want it replaced as 'it has always worked fine'. I believe he walked out after that
 
Nowt like a good bodge job.
Joking apart, there are some scary and dangerous people out there, lurking in the shadows.

If a mechanic had said that the brakes on your car are dangerous and will fill and you will die and kill your family then item would repair the car...... stuff like this is scary and dangerous as if the house goes up in flames it will take the neighbours out as well.
