Hi

Hoping to get some advice...

I’m planning to install a Nest 3rd Gen into my house why has a y-plan system

Boiler is glow worm flexicom 24hx

Programmer is British Gas Model UP2 (Invensys)

Room Thermostat is British Gas RS1

There is a wiring centre in the airing cupboard next to the hot water tank which seems the best place for the Nest Heat Link, I’ve identified all the wires but only one problem, there is currently no permanent live at the wiring centre. There’s a fused connection unit next to the boiler to provide it with permanent live and a spur off that to the programmer.

Will it be OK to use a spare brown wire in the boiler to wiring centre cable to supply permanent live?

Also I assume the simplest installation is to connect the heat link into the wiring centre in place of the connections from the programmer and room stat rather than trying to make direct connections from the heat link to e.g. the hot water tank, zone value and boiler as it appears on p25 of the instructions.

Thanks in advance

Dave

If you have a spare core on the cable that runs from wiring centre to boiler then yes this core could be put in the perm live terminal in boiler to give you the required perm live at the wiring centre. There are only 5 or 6 cables on a Y-plan so I would connect them directly to the heat link.
