Hi fellow sparkys i'm Stephen from Birmingham and am currently a power factor correction engineer with a firm called Power Capacitors LTD, i do installs, servicing and repairs of PFC equipment up and down the country. I also have worked in automation, BMS and general industrial backgrounds look forward to chatting with u all at some point KRO KRO (Birmingham city fan lol)...

Capacitors last for years but there are derating factors like ambiant temperature (too high) which will decrease there lifespan dramatically.

i hate capacitors. going back to my days in TV repairback in the 70's. when a section of a main dropper resistor went O/C some big fat 250mF cap was sitting @ 300V just waiting to bite the unwary. I still have the 10" shank screwdriver with the scars from discharging the buggers.
