Hey,

looking to replace all the old light switches in our new home

picked up a bunch of new screw less switches and went to change but want to make sure that they are ok and as simple as this.....

Existing wiring RED/BLUE/EARTH
Per the attached

now the new switches have a COM, L1, L2 and Earth. It is just a single switch light, so is it as simple as RED into COM, BLUE into L1, ignore L2 and EARTH to EARTH terminal. Basically is the existing blue wire essentially a "switched live" like the instructions talk about or do I need a different type of switch to work with the old wiring?

normallythe red goes to C or com. the blue would usuallyhave been black, but either way it should have a red sleeve to indicate thatit's a switched L. the cpc (earth wire) should connect to the switch faceplate terminal rather than the back box, although connecting both is good practice.

and good luck with screwless. they generally require deeper back boxes and if the wall is slightly uneven they fall off.

What you have is a new 2 way switch.
Nothing stopping you from using it as a standard 1 way switch.
You can put the Blue wire in either L1 or L2, only difference will be whether the switch is on one way or the other.

Looks like a shallow box in the wall, looks like the bolster and chisel will be coming out! But to be safe it would be better to just get your wallet out and pay someone to do the job mate. Safety aside, if you're changing the back box it's easy to damage to switch wire if you're a bit ham fisted.
