Hi guys,

I am wondering on a quote I gave recently. The job is:-

Provide new cooker circuit 6mm cable approx five meter run from cu to new cooker switch then plate. It's short but it's an awkward run.

Just out of interest what would be the ball park figure you would quote? I know it's tough without seeing it but just a rough idea will do.

Thanks Guys.

Materials:
£12-15 for the 6mm cable
£3.50 for the plate
£8 for the cooker switch
£3-4 cooker breaker
£5 fuel money

I'm guessing it may take half day
then labour £60-70 (based on North-west rates!)

all in materials + labour £105-115

Jeez your cheaper than me!
are the electrics being buried or surface mounted in trunking?

Yeah the cable whilst in utility room is going in trunking then in walls in kitchen. I'm in Surrey we are on almost fiver a pint in some places. So my quote was £200 and apparently I'm the cheapest by a long way? Go figure! That's about £160 labour really.

My half day rate is £75.
MCB as a standard rule is £5
I dont charge fuel money unless it really is a stupid distance away.
£8 minimum for a basic crappy cooker switch. may want a socket on it too, or specialised finish etc
yea maybe £15 for cable, but you are assuming it needs only 6mm and not 10mm
id probably forget to charge for trunking!
Id also look at maybe bringing cable in under cupboards/counters rather than up and over. all depends on placement of the cooker in the kitchen. might be possible to do all in the utility if the cooker 'shares' a wall with utility!
aaahh too many variables. Ball park figure...£150 from what i know and using cheap white fronts.

Kate - I'm thinking that your labour rate is too cheap! I thought I was 'competitive' but that's just daft rates.

i know, believe me i know!!! many of my customers tell me im too cheap, or even ask if im sure its enough. but by then its too late. i have had a couple give me extra money!! Im slowly trying to charge more. I didnt plan to go self employed, i had a few builders beg me to do some electrics as they couldnt get anyone else at the time. had no experience of pricing. I can honestly say no one under cuts me! I get regular work off of one builder, and hes learnt to put his own price in to a customer as he knows mine will be cheaper and he pockets the difference!

when I first started I did not like being put on spot for price so I would always email over (now I dont care) but really helped at time
wish i could say thats the excuse but its not! mine are so cheap after hours of thinking!
