Hi Everyone,

I came across this forum whilst I was just looking to see if I could get some advice about changing fluorescent lighting fixture to a normal E22 light bulb fixture...

If anyone knows if it can be done DIY job or do I need an electrician.. can’t seem to find any info online.

Kind Regards

Do you consider yourself competent enough to do it?

I don’t know the first thing I’m supposed to do about it. I did disassemble the light fixture to find a circuit board. Then I realised I’ve not turn main power off. So I reassembled it back and have not touched it since. Will I not be able to follow a step wise producedure and do it myself?

It can be done but if you need to ask if it can be done then I would say that you are probably not competent to do it and should probably get an electrician to do the job for you

Okay thank you for your advice. I will get an electrician. Also how long of a job is it? Any approximate quote I’m looking at?

You could change if for an LED fitting that comes with instructions. Basically you omit the control gear and wire it direct. However I would caution that the way fluorescents work there is massively high voltage and it is very fortunate you did not receive a fatal shock. Safe isolation is the first and foremost item on an electricians list.

I looked at LED ones but I rather avoid and just get an electrician in, as everyone’s suggested.

It’s a 20 minute job. Most will want a 2-hour minimum. If they can be bothered to do something this trivial.

Okay thank you. I thought it to be ‘trivial’ as such too hence why I thought if guided through the process I would be able to do it. Hey that’s a cool over the phone consultancy job eh lol

It’s New Year’s Eve. I may be able to give some guidance.
So....TURN THE POWER OFF
Remove the cover and take a photo of the termination if the wiring.
Also post a photo of the terminals on the new fitting.

That is very kind of you, there’s no super urgency on this I can wait for guidance after New Years even next week. Is it possible I can private message u as such? Really appreciate it.

You’ll have to put it on an RCD at 12.01 so make sure @Taylortwocities ‘aka’ Cinderella is back on the coach by 12 midnight!

Lol I had no idea what an RCD is just googled it. Ps I have no electrical knowledge but I want to attempt this conversion with your guys guidance... so do I just buy a e22 socket? or do u guys need to see the internals of the tube fixture first?

It will be from the pendant cover at the ceiling that we’ll want a picture of.
We’ll go from there albeit against the forum regulations - wonder if the moderators have passed out yet from the Babysham intake!
Schools out for Summer.

We’re not allowed to give step by step instructions in case you slip and put your foot through the 65” OLED and sue us!
