Hi Everyone, i'm after some input...
New house been built and i need to install a mains cable from 100Amp 3 phase in unit next door (unit is part of the plot and just oversized garage)
Now.... i've never installed bigger than 6mm square for outbuildings etc. House is to be single phase only. Looking at the big green book, 25mm SWA 3 core should suffice with the cable being buried at the correct depth. But should i bury it in conduit or lay direct in the ground. And any other advice on the subject of laying the mains would be greatly appreciated.

Gasp!!

I would be more worried about where you are going to connect it!
You should really speak with the DNO and get a seperate meter put in there.

okay guys. yes i didn't word that the best way i could have. i just wondered if there was going to be any benefit in laying the cable in conduit between buildings rather than direct in the ground which, by the way i have always done going to outbuildings etc.
The meter is already in the unit ready to be connected to, from whatever was originally connected to it.

If we ever end up actually having to open a trench , then it gets ducted as a matter of course . When 63mm twin wall cost less than a £1 per meter it is a no brainer really , if not for future proofing alone !?

Yeah, thought about the future proofing, but i can't quite see when it might ever need upgrading or replacing.
oh... fair point i hadn't written that the cable will not go straight into the meter but isolators at either end before tails etc.

nah. thought i'd just wind all the reds together, blacks together and chop off that spare copper in the middle thats always left over.......LOL
