Hi,

got a job to put some lighting/ power into part loft conversion,
Customer needs smoke head to be installed in loft and would like the one in the handing below to be changed for mains.

Do the HAVE to be linked together? Ive not done much on fire alarm side unfortunately. I would like to link them together anyway as its easy to get to, but wondered what the relevant reg's state on this?

Also does anyone have a good/ reasonably priced smoke head i could go for?

many thanks

Yes mate, they need to be linked, what about the Downstairs smoke ? Take a look at the Kidde stuff in TLC only ever had a problem with 1 Head in about 10 years.

I believe if its under building control (well around my way) then it is reqired to be mains powered interlinked with battery back-up.
I would personally do this anyway - better safe than sorry!

The make i use are aico Ei146/144/141 these also have the option of buying a separate radio link base if the hard wiring between them could be tricky

You may also need to install on the ground floor to comply with building regs

Spot on thanks guys, i wasnt planning on upgrading the ground floor smoke though. surely i dont have to if im not altering anything down there?
Building control will want interlinked smokes on all 3 floors. Also fire doors on all 3 floors for habitable rooms. Might be worth having an emergency light on the top floor stairwell as well (it'll most likely be very dark at night).
