Hi all

Just a quick question about the NICEIC approved contractor:
If I register would I be able to use several electricians to install installations and then have a QS to test and sign off all the work done by them?

If I am mistaken what scheme/organisation would I need to do this.

The reason I ask is that a local company I work with has been issued a nice contract doing 5 installs per day (don't want to go into details).

They have asked me to join them and take charge of this contract - of course we would need a minimum of 5 electricians to do this but we are looking at contracting this would and then have one Quality Supervisor to test and sign off all installations.

Installations are on a mix of Domestic, Commercial and Industrial.

I would also need a list of the requirements the organisation imposes if anyone has these

There's several areas and boxes you must tick to be an approved NICEIC contractor. You need to have been trading a certain period, I believe 2 yrs, the assessment criteria is not just domestic but commercial and I you needed to list 5-7 jobs in which they pick the ones they see, You also need certain levels of qualifications also.

But once you achieve this then yes you would have a designated QS to sign off the work

I would imagine the most important one as far as the NIC (or other scheme provider) are concerned is the 1000 quid (or whatever it is) fee for the privilege!!

Don't they assess the QS and the electricians also?

Registration is around £500 and if you pass the first years membership is around £500 on top of that. It ain't the laugh that DI membership/assessment is - give us your money, can you spell you're own name, well done you're a DI...

the electricians can tests the work and fill in certs QS can just reveiw and sign, but if the contract is in the near future it will prob take at least 3 months to sort it out if not more!
