The NICEIC will want to see those qualifications prior to allowing you to be QS. That would include the NVQ 3.

I am the QS in my company albeit DI and can if i wish apply for AC and be the QS for that aswell, I had the phonecall from them trying to get me to become Approved Contractor, I do not have the NVQ3 or Am2, They get you to sit a multi choice online test in lieu of the NVQ that is supposedly equivalent knowledge! The NICEIC have a somewhat relaxed and fluid approach to qualifications ,the most important being a valid debit card or cheque book

If you can upgrade from DI to AC by doing an assesment with them then you should. It would open up more opportunities into commercial work for you. Also, you'd get an NVQ3 no worries if you wanted it, you can take your time doing it so you might as well get it under your belt

I get enough commercial stuff already in shops, businesses and offices in my area without being AC. Do not see why i need to pay more money for a different van sticker and logo. I pay for the DI as I need it to sign off stuff with building control. Part P doesnt with a few exceptions doesnt cover non domestic stuff anyway. I have never been held back by a lack of NVQ3. Sure if i really wanted to get one i could but why spend that money on something I do not at this moment need? I stopped working for a company doing refurbs on cafes, shop, restuarants, and all sorts of buildings purely so i could take things easier and focus on house bashing. It means I have more time to myself and a better work life balance.

If you feel that by not being an Approved Contractor your not gaining anything then there is no point in joining.

Going to put my foot in it again, as Dillb says you are either an Electrician or your not, how can you call yourself an Electrician, when you have no idea of how to work on Commercial or industrial electrics, if DIs do domestic would CIs do commercial and IIs do industrial?
