Hi, does it comply with the regulations to run a cable in a notch in the wood upright of a stud wall and then nail plasterboard over it (taking care not to nail the cable)?

The position of the notch is within 150mm of the corner/end of the wall in the prescribed zone.

In this case drilling through the centre of the stud is not practical because the stud partition wall butts up against a brick wall.
 
i would drill stud at an angle so as to leave a minimal amount of cable under the board, right up next to the wall. then notch the end of the hole into the stud. if you can make sense of that.
 
Drill stud as you would do normally, chop wall out which is up against the the stud. Same as going behind a skirting board. Failing that, a metal plate covering the cables in a notch.

I also use sleeves made from rigid conduit to pass through the studs
does a good job of protecting the cables from nails or screws
