Number plate light and dashboard light staying on?!

Hi guys have a bit of a problem on my 1999 vw 6n polo, recently I have noticed my numberplate lights and dashboard light is staying on all the time even with the headlight/sidelight switch on the off position. This happens on the third key click just as you turn to start the car. I have only checked the fuses so far and they all look alright.

If anyone has and ideas/solutions please fire away

Hi, are the sidelights on? and when you say dashboard light,do you mean instrument illumination,or another warning lamp? and does this vehicle have parking lights,switched from the indicator stalk?

it's a polo. the answer lies in that black hole.... the hole in the polo.

The sidelights are switched off. Yeah the instrument illumination. And yes it also has parking lights switched on from the indicator stalk.

Hi,and does the dashboard illumination come on with parking light operation? Assuming parking light function is working...:yes:

And has it had rear damage, and does it have a tow bar with scotch locks.

Nope no dashboard illumination when the parking lights are on. And @ruston no rear damage and no tow bar
