Discuss Old MK sockets? Classification code or not? in the Periodic Inspection Reporting & Certification area at ElectriciansForums.net

Yes but why, I agree with Tel the one in your pic does show signs of overheating but if the others are okay I would say they are fine surely they have shutters.
and stop calling me Shirley. :p

There's a reason why that MK socket is still in use.....good build quality! I doubt today's sockets will last as long as that one!

i'd code that socket outlet as CB..... Cillit Bang. needs a good clean.

Bs 1363 for socket outlets require them to be of the shuttered type.
Bs 7671 also makes referencing to other British standards that maybe of a safety risk so that's why I would not deem unshuttered sockets as acceptable

Are they unshuttered ? I was of the impression that shuttered L and N terminals had been part of BS1363 since its inception. Might be wrong though.

They are definitely shuttered unless the mechanism is broken which I doubt in that socket.

I still have a few of those sockets in use in my house, in the basement and loft. The only reason I changed the others was because the wife wanted fancy ones. Nothing wrong with them, nobody sees them except me, and I like them. I'd like to see someone try and code them, I wouldn't be impressed!
