Guys,
Just a quick one. I'm putting an LED half lantern outside on my new extension. At present I have just come off a 2 gang light switch along with the extension inside light. The 1.5mm twin and earth goes straight into the back of the outside half lantern with no wiring exposed externally. Is it good practice or indeed mandatory to come off a separate switched fused spur rather than a standard light switch.
Cheers

It is OK to connect to the lighting circuit, but the lighting switch may not have the connections that you need! Most switches only have the live and switched live. You'll need a neutral too.
Is there one at your switch?

PS Note: just because a wire is blue (or black) does not necessarily mean that it is a neutral conductor.
Post a photo if you aren't sure.

Im waiting to hear from him as to whether he is needed. The extension is a single room with an additional 3 sockets off an existing ring and 2 additional lights off an existing lighting circuit. I have read up on what is notifiable and as the work does not require a new circuit and is not in a special location, I'm not sure if he is required. I'd welcome a second opinion.
Thanks

So who exactly is going to design, install and test these aspects of your extension? and give the certificate to BCO for your completion certificate?
