Discuss Oven Tripping, but only after use in the UK Electrical Forum area at ElectriciansForums.net

Hi,
I'm new to the forum and to electrics in general, trying to study and get qualified and get practice where I can. One of my friends has asked me to help with his oven, which has been tripping the whole CU, but only after he's cooked in it and opens the door. Apparently someone looked at it before and said there was a problem with the bulb, but took the bulb with them, so now the holder for it is empty but has a cover on it. Because it's only when the door is opened I was thinking it might be something to do with the steam/condensation that's released, but haven't been able to find much about people having this problem and am unsure where to start. Any help or tips in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Probably not just the Lamp, could be the Lamp wiring/holder is faulty.

You could try pressing the button around the door that switches on the light if its accessible. Maybe its loose and arcing a bit on to the metal parts of the oven.

could even be a dodgy element. expansion and contraction causing leakage?

Another scenario could be to do with the thermostat, maybe the rapid loss of heat causing a problem??

Was that last person to look at it an appliance tech?

When I hear oven I immediately think grease. Check the door switch if there is one and the lamp holder for grease contamination. I've also come across an oven where the internal insulation was like a metallic foil covered mat and the foil had migrated over time and come into contact with wiring terminals causing tripping.

As Tel says could be an element also, they sometimes only cause RCD tripping after some time when they've heated up fully.
