Very interesting program tonight and for once I take my hat off to the BBC for standing its ground and actually showing some of the cartoons to which angered so many fanatical muslims....

Very interesting to see it explained as I already knew about the massive divide within the muslim community between those moderate Muslims who wish to intergrate and lift a more relaxed belief and the hard line muslims that want Sharia etc to be implicated across Britain, how can we expect to intergrate with Muslims when there is a big rift within the communities. The hard line views that exist are not just a minority either, if you live close to muslim area like I do you see the evidence everyway with the expected full coverup of the muslim women, this is a clear indication as to the numbers who want a more Islamic sharia based Britain.

the next point is the worrying fact from day-1 a young muslim is taught by their Imams its a 'you and them' sociecty (non-believers) even by the moderate Imams, this is the very seed that starts a negative trend of divide and seeing any non believer as a lesser equal, could you imagine if infant schools taught us that all muslims were lesser worth than us ... Oh! similar used to happen in the USA and the killing groups were called KKK..

Thoughts please...

Caution!!! ... Please stick to the rules of the forum and word your responses carefully, we don't want far right opinions or racist slander. Please keep it as a clean debate without dragging it down to crude comments of race, creed and colour.

The company i used to work for specialised in house of worship audio.

Needless to say i need alot of mosque work. Everyone i worked in had its really nice people and also the ones who were CLEARLY racist. Whenever i built up a relationship with someone there it would inevitably get onto the topic of religion. All of which openly admitted to me that they knew i was going to burn in the hellfire. Multiple times i said, how do you ever expect us to 100% get on in society when you go around fully believing that i am going to burn in hell for the rest of eternity. At which point it was a case of well thats my fault for not picking a religion.

Might i also add, they weren't necessarily trying to convert me to Islam, but just to any religion at all. I have had some very good debates in mosques!

Got plenty of Muslim customers, work for some Bangla builders, Pakistani restaurant owners, etc...
They mind their own business and last thing they want is any kind of battle.
The story around is that all the recent mess is done by the big powers to provoke even more hatred between faiths.

Let me make it clear at the outset that I'm an atheist but have absolutely no beef with any religion or people holding religious views.

The Charlie Hebdo may* have caused offence. That's what satire does. It is intended to get a reaction. But cold blooded murder is inexcusable whatever the perceived offence caused is. Nobody was physically damaged in any way by the cartoons. Killing as retribution is totally off the scale.

*But this business of causing offence. I'm inclined to the view that it was an excuse for radicalised extremists to take the extreme action they did.

That said, the next person to tell a joke about the mean Scots will find my Claymore rammed so far up their jacksy their bloody eyes will pop out.

No, I'm not trying to trivialise the events in Paris. Just trying to show how totally horrid, unacceptable and disproportionate the attack was.

What surprising to me is this take headlines on the same day 2000+ innocents were killed in one mass slaughter (mostly burnt alive) ..by the Boko Haram Islamic extremists... now this barely got a mention or headlines any page in the rags let alone gets mentioned on the news.. a totally disproportionate representation of the true cost of Extremists around the world.. I find myself if its purposely repressed to quash the rise of Islamaphobia ...

In what world does 17 deaths in France take presidence over 2000 innocent victims including women and children... both shocking events in there own way but it seems distance is a good mind numbing anesthetic to the media.

Yes, I posted that in another forum. Admin is a British cartoonist who does caricatures. And happens to be Muslim.
He claimed that Islam was a religion of peace - and subsequently gave me a ban.

Sounds like an own goal he scored there.... surely if he is trying to prove the concept of Islam been a peaceful and tolerant religion he would have had a more positive approach and denounced the actions of the Boko Haram ... Like most I fear, he is too scared to speak out and want to be seen banning any real questioning on the ethics of Islam.

I too am an atheist, with all the crap going on in the world I find it impossible to believe in a benevolent god. However if there is such a thing I reckon he/she/it would have a few more important matters to deal with than to be offended by a bloody cartoon.
I don't see what the issue is anyway, no one is around today who ever saw Mohammed or Jesus or Moses or Budha or any other sky daddy you'd care to name. No accurate pictures of any one of them are known to exist so if I draw a picture of some random bloke and give it what ever name why get all up tight about it.
It annoys the life out of me when people see random markings in a bit of toast or a tomato and say "IT'S JESUS!" No, to someone galloping past on a horse who is half cut and looking sideways at it it might just look like a bloke with a beard but that's it.

It's actually something I suggested to him.

My actual words:

If Islam is a religion that proscribes violence then maybe the leaders should be vociferous in denouncing such terrorist attacks under the guise of Islam.

They may have done so but I haven't seen it.

To be honest i'm totally fed up with tuning in to CNN, BBC WORLD and other UK and Europe based news channels, it's been ALL France for the last six days. It's as if the worlds news has just stopped!! Thankfully i can tune into other English speaking news channels to find out what's been going on!! The crazy thing is, these other news channels were reporting that the missing wanted woman had crossed into Turkey and probably heading to Syria, a full day if not longer before anything was being reported on the European based stations!!!

Can't agree more with Daves post 6, this French terrorist attack as sad as it was, it has been blown out of all proportion. The UK has had it's terrorist attacks over the years from both the IRA and the Islamic extremists, can't remember anywhere near the amount of fuss being made over any of those incidents/deaths and injuries, as what were seeing in France right now...

I reckon most on here will be Athiests if not agnostic, physics and maths been key to our industry and a general mind set that Electricity isn't magic gives us a more scientific approach.

I met a Muslim asking how to get into the trade and do what I do, I asked how deep his religious believes were just because I was that way out that day so he expressed very deep. I explained he will need a knowledge in physics which may include theories and facts that are contradictory to his beliefs, straight up he said if they contradict Islam then it is false.... lol I shut him up when I said "science is what microwaves your food, works your mobile phone etc and we know through science how to make them, when your god shows me how electricity works then ill agree with you in that science is wrong and Allah is right".. "until then my teachings earn me a crust".... Exit one confused Muslim :icon12:

We have a Christian Chapel in one of the properties I cover and once I sat in at dinnertime as he thought he could convert me, he asked for any questions part way through so I asked several all of which were designed to contradict his believes and leave him stumped.. goal achieved and never got any preaching again :)

Lastly I get bible bashers at the door every year and I always tell them the same in that Im an Athiest because God made me that way.

I like to mock religion to a certain extent but don't expect to be killed for it!

Who's Dave?

Religion has killed and maimed more people in this world than all the so-called political and land based wars put together and that to date, is an actual FACT!!

I'd also say that religion has hampered mankind's development. One example, Galileo was imprisoned and came very close to being burned at the stake for heresy after suggesting that the earth orbited the sun not the other way round.

Muslims across the globe were offended by the cartoons as they felt it was deliberate blasphemy..but the terrorist attacks were very very bad indeed. No one should take the law into there own hands.

Lets see what tommorow brings... the French satirical mag' is printing a special edition and the prophet of the oh so peaceful religion is making a special star appearance in cartoon form :).... I'm more interested on which media outlets repeat the picture, see if all this talk of standing up against the freedom to print such cartoons actually is just a false front or will we see this cartoon shown!

Well i can't see how that can be actually, muslims live there life strictly according to the Koran!! Now i've read the Koran, and '' blasphemy'' is never mentioned or implied in it's pages....

This blasphemy crap is something that's been manufactured by others, but has no standing within the true muslim doctrines. There are even a few countries laws (such as in Pakistan) that have this bogus manufactured term written in to it's statutes.
