There is another thread talking about the need for structural assessments but how do you pay for them?

Is the customer's deposit taken and a clause in the contract stipulates that if the structural survey fails (or re-enforcement is required but the customer doesn't want to do it) then the cost is deducted from the returnable deposit? Or do you take a hit?

Or?

There was a post regarding photo/desk surveys for about £80+VAT. I personally would cover this in the small print, but make sure my customer is fully aware. I always talk through the T&C's with them. In addition to all of the normal paperwork I also have an "Authority to Spend" form that the customer signs giving me the right to spend the deposit money on products and services relating to the solar installation.

We haven't had a roof that has catastrophically failed there's been an odd one that has needed a bit more support built in to it but we always put a note at the bottom of the quote that if the structural survey identifies work and the customer decides not to go ahead then the cost of the survey will be deducted from the deposit. All of our customers are fine with that.
