PIR Limitations

Phew its been a while since ive been on here (illness) Now I am well again and getting back to work I would like to ask some advice if I may?

When doing a PIR does anyone have a set list of limitations that they put on the form as I do not know how to word the limitations and what you guys put down as your usual limitations such as concealed cables.:angelsad2:

Hi ICE welcome back and hope things are improving for you mate.

Have a read of the notes in appendix 6 page 339 and reg 634.2 of the BRB and limitations is something you set up with the client and really is individual to each installation.

The one you highlighted is a good one for domestic installations and yes that would be a normal limitation on nearly every reports SoI

But others might be access to circuits or unable to find circuits. Access might be some circuits that are for production lines that just can not be switched off and so you are limited to what you can do if anything on them, and so you would arrange out of hours working or lim it.

Another common one is Ze, as it is often impossible to completely disconnect an earthing system from an installation safely. So you may do a Ze with it connected and compare notes if you have previous test records, or you will have started a base line level that other test in the future will allude to.

When I quoted for PIRs I did it by the circuit and often on big commercial/industrial sites I would put a time limitation on circuits, ie 30 mins, if I could not identify where/what/how a circuit was going then I would mark that down as a Lim. and either arrange a quote for tracing the circuit on remedial work or it was often as not left.

I generally put 'No dismantling or lifting of floorboards' taken straight from the example in the On Site Guide.

Thats a good idea, we have just completed one where we seemed to spend an hour or so on some circuits trying to find where it goes! Agreeing it as a limitation before hand for the time limit could be a cracking plan!

to do a true Ze you need to remove incoming fuse and disconnect main earth cant do that due to seals and limitations if its commercial as in affecting buisness

I usually take the Ze measurment at the feed side of the main switch, with the switch open and the earth conductor disconnected.

could it be that sometimes, and ive come across it myself, the main fuse supplies multiple boards via henley blocks/100a connectors and there is no single main switch
