RCD Issue, Tripping at half Limit...

Hi All

I have just done a board change at a house that i'm sure is a TT System. (The House is supplied by overhead cable to the house with an earth rod net to where the external meter is fitted).

Once I had changed the board, I did a ZE Reading and GOt 5.63 Ohms. When testing the 30mA RCDs on the board it was tripping on half limit.

Has anyone experienced this with a TT System??

Did you have ALL the loads disconnected? If not its quite likely you have an earth fault.

No, That was a 3 lead live test for ZE and then testing the RCD From a Socket Circuit..

Disconnect loads and test again at the load side of the RCD terminals.

Always best to test the RCD or RCBO's at the CU with the loads disconnected.

I would say you have a fault somewhere too.

Had an RCD go down on a customer this morning. One ring final circuit with every thing on it kitchen, front room, hallway and backroom. I split the circuit in two and found the fault in the kitchen. Line to earth fault which took 3 hrs to find.

I have got to say after reading the O.P. and seeing the O.P. profile I agree with you there westward it would be one of the first things you would investigate before starting.
