Hi Guys,

I am new here and would like you have your expert advice.
So I have a dwelling with 4 floors - basement, ground, first floor and roof and I was going to make 2 DBs, one in the ground floor and in the first floor.

Ground floor DB will cover basement and ground floor.
First Floor DB will cover first floor and roof.

I will be having 2 power circuits and 2 lighting ciruits in each DBs.

The main powers entry will be at the ground floor db. I was going to then feed the first floor DB, with a feeder.

Does the feeder needs to be protected with and RCD too?
Also, what do you think about my DBs.

Thanks in Advance
Mark

I see you are based in Malta where I believe BS7671 is adopted but is it not a legal requirement in Malta that circuits have rcd protection or is this incorrect.

Hi - if you were in the UK we would try to avoid having RCDs in series. This may be achieved by using appropriate installation methods and cable types.

If it is a legal requirement I don't see how you can omit it. Does this requirement allow for different types of red like 100ma or time delayed.

No point in the 2nd RCD if it is in series with downstairs one. An MCB protecting the distribution circuit to 1st floor DB would be better as it has its own RCD for final circuits. Better still, split the supply ahead of the downstairs DB and install a switch fuse for the distribution circuit.

Yes he confirms this in #4. They do follow BS7671, not sure which version though but there is a legal requirement.
