tnc-s system ....lighting circuit ......cables buried less than 50mm ....not rcd protected....what code should i put
(i think code 2...
but could it be c3 (not compliant with current regs)

You can't go round giving C2's to ALL the houses without RCD protection on the lights.

If anything its a C3

The most I would give that on its own, assuming no other problems having an impact on it, is C3

irrelevant. metal fittings without a cpc would be a code C2 , but if the installation was pre 2008, the 522 6.101 did not apply , so the most you can give is a C3 for lack of RCD.

he couls always get a job with british gas. anything done to 16th is an instant C1, new CU necessary.

There's one round my way, calls himself Bradbury Electrical. He's fresh out of college, can't be older than about 20, and drives a liveried up van with 'testing and inspection specialist' written all over it. Amongst other blunders, this kid C1s 6mm bonding conductors on 60A TN-S systems. I've yet to bump into this clown in the wholesalers but I look forward to the day I do!

These examples can swing both ways. Time served sparky (now in his seventies), 'man and boy' etc. Not updated since the 15th Ed because he knows everything. 4 x code 1's and 2 x codes 2's on an EICR. He then grades it satisfactory (repairs not done)!

Puts in a new board for the customer in May 2014 to 15th Ed Regs. Boards hanging off the wall, covers hanging off the board and no certification.

Get experience working along side an experienced inspector. You have no excuse, just because you once worked with a poor electrician that doesn't mean that you can go throwing yourself head first into jobs that you don't know how do do.

Here's some helpful advice for you; learn how to walk before you start running.

It's not abuse fella, it's the hard truth. In terms of inspection and testing knowledge, mine is already far superior to yours, therefore I don't feel the need to do anything to make myself 'feel' superior. That superior knowledge gives me the ability, and the right, to say that you currently don't posses the level of knowledge needed to be carrying out inspection and testing work if you have to be asking such basic questions. You can't just take the work on and expect people on forums to answer questions, that you, as an electrician who has taken money in exchange for testing and inspection services, should know!

Finally, as you asked, I have time to spend on here in between emailing invoices to my many customers, customers whom I have gained over many years who give me money to carry out work that I can actually do, and do bloody well!
