Got called out today to a tripping RCD. Quickly determined that it was the socket ring that was causing it and set about breaking the ring at the mid point and narrowing it down.Eventually got the fault in the lounge only so pulled the tv away from the wall to get to the socket. There was slug trails all over the carpet.Took off the double socket and found this.....

The tiny slug was across the live and earth bar!.
After evicting the sitting tenant the wires then showed clear.I put all the sockets back together and retested the ring and insulation resistance. All now perfect.

Customer was happy as was I,due to me not having to go under the floor!
I have had a few faults now caused by slugs getting into the electrics. They must like living dangerously:confused:

Is it me, or do I find slugs in the living room as unusual

Once they're in they can be a bugger to get out. We had them once, took years to find them. They were living behind a skirting board and coming out at night through a credit card thin gap.

Used to rent a crappy house when I was younger that was plagued with them due to gaps all over the place. I think the lowest point was when I tipped out my cornflakes one morning to find one sat in the middle of my breakfast writhing about in a crispy golden coating.
