can anyone explain what is the rating for on a rcd device not the 30ma but te 63amp or 80amp. im a little confused as they dont provide overcurrent protection.

cheers

Tripping currents are the maximum earth leakage currents , current ratings are the maximum operating current of the device.

You're right about RCD's not providing overload protection, therefore should the current rating of the RCD be exceeded it will start to overheat.

The 63 Amp or 80 Amp rating is the same as on a main switch. Its not overload protection as you say but is a maximum safe working load for the rcd or main switch.
