Why do you need a relay?

Hi Marc from Canada and Welcome to the Forum :)
You may have special requirements in Canada, but UK regs allow direct control of the pump by the zone valve with 230V.

Not familiar perhaps with your zone valve, but when the motor is energised (y-y) by thermostat it should open the water valve and close the switch (r-r). I would normally use this switch to control the motor.

Is the switch in the valve not suitably rated for this application then?
