I was changing a consumer unit today and the DNO's main cut-out was a porcelain rewireable fuse inside a hinged metal unit. There were no markings on the fuse-holder, and the fuse consisted of two strands of wire, approx 0.75mm dia each.

I'm afraid I haven't seen one like this before. Can anyone tell me how I can work out the rating of this fuse? And what I should note it down as on the cert?

Thanks.

well for a start i would normally just sit back and observe fuse pulling on DNO aperatus.....but these old cutouts with ceramic type rewireable fuses can be dangerous....as they can just drop apart in your hands....so all`s you end up with is a fistful of copper....
you should avoid pulling them...but if you must then always, always use insulated pliers/grips to do it...just in case...and never under load...
as far as these old cast iron cutouts are concerned...the DNO are in the process of replacing these....
so give them a bell...get on to the duty engineer....they should send out relevent paperwork for the client to fill in and return as regarding the replacement of this for a new one....

yep. get DNO to replace free. this should have been done 2 years ago, but as there is no money in it for DNO they're dragging their heels waiting for us poor sods to do half their dirty work.
