I'll be moving permanently to Germany next month and am in the process of figuring out how best to sort out my electrical appliances. For many of them, it's cheap and easy enough to get hold of European kettle leads and the like, but some of my appliances have odd plugs or are wired directly into the appliance.
Rather than purchasing bulky adapters, I'd ideally like to rewire the plugs on these appliances. However, my UK understanding of electrics starts to get confused at the European system.
First, it looks like German (Schuko) plugs are not fused, which I am not used to. Second, as one can insert a European plug either way into a socket, I'm guessing it doesn't matter which way round the live and neutral wires are connected.
Is that correct? If I order some rewireable Schuko plugs (here), can I simply strip and attach my UK wires to them without any issues, or is it a little more complicated (and potentially dangerous)?
For info, the appliances I'd be looking to rewire are a 40" telly, the missus's sewing machine, a handheld food processor, a microwave (might be leaving it behind) and an Anglepoise desk lamp.
