Old Jag Lover

Are you still using ring circuits in Britain I did an upgrade of an old switchboard from fuses to Arc Fault combo RCDs,thought the last guy had double tapped a few fuses but when my 9 yr old daughter who was helping me switched them on,KABOOM,took me a while to figure it out,she beat me to it,said dad why should power be on 2 wires when one is disconnected the the owner said the place was wired by a Scottish guy about 40 years ago we just split the circuits from 6 power to 12,6mm,Twin,in rmc, conduit used as earth just pigtailed to the earth screw,32A breakers for power 10A for lights 32 for stove and a few 20amps for hot water and aircon all three phase hager panel.400A main breaker old factory.200A on panel just marked it submain.

What? Is this a joke? I'm going to get my 6 month old baby to help me with my next rewire coz he can squeeze between joist and plasterboard without falling through!

The answer to your question is yes we still use ring circuits in the UK, but judging by your post and terminology you are obviously from abroad. However you obviously don't have a understanding of UK systems which makes you not competent to work on them. Upgrading a consumer unit in a domestic premises in England and Wales is building control notifiable job and as such your local council should be informed beforehand or you must be registered under part P on a competent scheme. You obviously haven't done any tests before energising the installation. If you are from OZ as the above thread states and I go to your country I can't work as a sparky until I have a licence, for good reason I don't know your systems and would not be competent to work on them.

Is your 9year old daughter called 'cannonfodder' by any chance? Getting her to switch it on ... makes this thread scream of troll/you're ****ed.

However, t'other point of this tosh....think about it, if you disconnect a neutral...can this still be live? Neutral only neutral when connected to neutral and all that other year1 apprentice terminology :)

Im questioning why hes working on a live circuit in the first place and even letting anyone around the switches or wiring.

Im a US spark and i wont let any of my apprentices work live or even touch a conductor unless they lock it out and my lock is attached as well!
