Ring tripping rcd when connected

Ring keeps tripping ... end to end .65/.65/1.2 IR 999 on both legs 999 together ....but trips rcd straight away any ideas

Does it trip the RCD when you power up the circuit or is it just intermittently?

When you're carrying out the IR test, does your MFT simply run the test and stop or is it like a Megger where you hold the button down and it keeps applying the test voltage and providing readings? I would run a longer test and look for sudden drops in the IR reading. If you get them it can sometimes indicate you have a pinhole in the insulation that won't always show up on a quick test. In which case, investigate any of the accessories you might have worked on or the whole lot if this is a new fault.

It is possible for a circuit to pass an insulation resistance test when testing between its own conductors, if its isolated from everything else. ( E and N removed from DB)

Something like a screw just piecing through the insulation and touching the live conductor whilst also touching a copper pipe would show the same results.

You need to be more specific.

A very good point made.

When conducting IR tests, the cpc should ALWAYS be connected to the earth bar in the CU along with ALL the other CPCs

Found it eventually ..tiny nic in neutral insulation touching cpc as i put back into cu
